Qilu petrochemical shut down its 140,000tonne/year LDPE unit due to weak demand on 18 December, one company source said. The unit was planned to restart on 25 December, the source added. Many downstream converters would be on vacation ahead of schedual on upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year Holiday(25-31 January 2009) and bearish economy. Shanghai petrochemical delayed the restart time of its 90,000 tonnes/year LDPE unit from early December to late December, due to weak demand, sources said. The unit was shut down on 31 October. Tianjin United postponed the restart time of its 120,000 tonnes/year LLDPE unit to March 2009 on poor demand after the shutdown of the unit on 28 September.
